GREAT BARRIER REEF,November 2, 2000. The Bunga Teratai Satu runs aground on our world heritage reef, 22 nautical miles south east of Cairns. Weeks earlier an inspector from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority had detained the vessel in Sydney after the crew could not operate the radio and safety boats would not launch. The Bunga had a 12 month permit to carry Australian cargo on our coast.
